Middle School Science Teaching Position
This position at James E. McDade Classical School in Chicago is responsible for providing science education services to middle school students in a classroom and laboratory setting. Instructs students, maintains student discipline and is responsible for student academic achievement.
1. Develops and maintains a classroom environment conducive to effective learning within the limits of the resources provided by the District.
2.Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of students. 
Instructs students and assigns relevant homework. 
3. Prepares and administers subject/topical specific tests and labs to measure student abilities and progress.
4.Designs and implements appropriate instruction of subject assigned in accordance with students' needs, and the Next Generation Science Standards. 
5.Conducts appropriate assessments of students' work and maintains accurate and regular data on students in areas of attendance, grades and IEP progress, if applicable. 
6.Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning the academic and behavioral progress of their students through conferences, written messages, telephone calls and/or e-mail. 
 7.Uses a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.

Math and Science Teaching Position

Tenure-Track Position at George Mason

The George Mason University Psychology Department invites applications for a tenure-track position beginning in the Fall semester 2017. All candidates should demonstrate scholarship that is capable of attracting external funding, and strong teaching potential/experience at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Candidates capable of teaching advanced statistics/methodology courses are desirable. Candidates from minority and underrepresented populations are particularly encouraged to apply.

After-School Program Openings

Catherine Cook School's Extended Day program in Old Town needs kid champions to lead their students in productive and creative academic and enrichment investigations after school in a semi-structured environment. They prefer adults who have worked with students before in classroom or camp experiences, are interested in child development, and have boundless energy in the afternoons from 2:15-6:00 p.m. This position lasts from Tuesday, September 6, 2016 to June 8, 2017 and follows our school’s calendar with days off when school is not in session. There will be training days to be determined sometime in the week of August 29-September 2, 2016.

Fall 2016 Babysitting Position

Looking for a reliable late afternoon – early evening weeknight babysitter starting in the fall/September 2016 for an 8 and 12 year old in the South Loop neighborhood.  Hours would be 3:30 to 7:30 on Mondays through Thursdays (can be flexible on some days depending on your school schedule).  Responsibilities include picking up children from school, driving them to after school activities (we will provide car & insurance; just need current driver’s license), and helping with night time routine (dinner, homework, ready for bed).  There is the possibility of additional weekend babysitting if desired.   We have had a terrific UIC student babysitter for the last 3 years who is graduating, so we are looking for someone else who would like to help our family.  Pay is $15 per hour.   If you are interested, please call 312-961-2461 or email Jennifer Rakstad at

Childcare Assistance Needed
West Loop family (Racine/Monroe) seeks part-time childcare provider for 10-year old, fifth grader.  Typical hours are 6:30 am until 9 am and 3:45 pm until 6:30 pm on weekdays.  Would consider one person for the mornings and another for the afternoons if necessary.
Candidate would help with morning routine (making sure child is up, showered, dressed), get breakfast ready and pack his lunch.  School ends at 3:45, so pick up from Skinner West school would be at that time.  Generally, afternoons consist of a snack after school and homework.  Currently, he has an activity after school on Thursdays.  Help with getting dinner started would be ideal.  
Ideally, we are seeking someone who speaks Spanish fluently.  Pay commensurate with experience.  Anticipated starting date is Tuesday, 9/6/16 but we can be flexible.
