UICOMP COVID-19 – Update
June 4, 2021
Dear UICOMP Family,
COVID-19 data reflects trends in the right direction with a decreasing number of cases and hospitalizations, locally and nationally. This is indeed good news! The focus on vaccinating as many people as possible continues. Our public health experts and the medical and scientific community all agree that vaccination is the best precaution for protecting ourselves, our families and our community from COVID-19.
AAMC COVID-19 Updates
Today’s AAMC Coronavirus Update included great information and several interesting articles, from a summary on breakthrough infections to a new CDC report on social vulnerability with respect to vaccination.
“Better Together” Transition Planning
Planning continues for our “Better Together: Transitioning and Re-engaging On Campus.” Departments, supervisors and employees are planning for our fully on-campus presence by August 1. We continue to monitor guidance from UIC, CDC, IDPH and our local affiliates and public health officials. All of this is considered as we continue to formulate our plans and policies. Your continued patience and cooperation are appreciated.

June is Pride Month
June is designated as Pride Month to celebrate and support the LGBTQ+ community. It marks a celebration of personal freedom and recognizes the struggle to overcome prejudice and marginalization. The Pride events in central Illinois as well as those hosted by UIC are opportunities for all of us to show support, listen and be educated.
Men’s Health Awareness
The Be Well Illinois website recognizes June as Men’s Health Awareness Month. It includes several articles, including Healthy Eating for Men, Physical Activity, and Financial Fitness. Be Well Illinois is the State of Illinois’ comprehensive wellness program with a variety of online resources.
Local Health Department Vaccine Clinics
Our public health departments in the Tri-County area continue to offer community vaccination sites in an effort to make vaccines more easily accessible to all. Please share these opportunities with any individuals or groups you know. All dates, details and information (including links to register online) can be found here.
