University Hall Plaza Gets a Glow Up

University Hall plaza had a glow up this fall, and it's looking fabulous. Renovations include a smart irrigation system, gentler landscape slopes and new trees, which support our campus goal of building a robust tree canopy. The updates enhance the student experience by beautifying the plaza while also addressing maintenance issues. With these renovations, UIC continues to enhance its position as a welcoming community destination. Read more.

Combatting Climate Change through Chemical Reactions

At UIC, new breakthroughs are within reach. Recently, UIC engineers created a solar-powered electrochemical reaction that helps fight climate change through its novel process to create ammonia. The second-most produced chemical in the world, ammonia is currently made with nitrogen, which requires burning fossil fuels. UIC's innovative method uses wastewater nitrates and solar power, potentially reducing greenhouse gas emissions, which are a driving force of climate change. Read more.

UIC Granted $1.5M To Support Asian American and Pacific Islander Students

For the fourth time since 2010, UIC has received the Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institutions grant from the U.S. Department of Education’s Minority-Serving Institutions program. With this latest grant of 1.5 million, UIC will support initiatives including educational advising and a community-engaged curriculum in Global Asian Studies. Grants like these help UIC ensure that every hungry mind has a path to study at our great university. Read more.

Renovating Flames Field Soccer Complex

UIC's Flames Field is the only collegiate grass soccer pitch in Chicago, and it will undergo a complete renovation. The new stadium will feature a state-of-the-art natural grass playing surface, expanded seating, as well as new irrigation and drainage systems, providing student-athletes and fans an exceptional experience.
