For the week of April 10, 2017

The LCLC represented all of LCSL's programs at the LAS Admitted Student Reception this past Saturday.

Dear Faculty, Lecturers and TAs,

Special Event: The Italian Film Festival USA is coming to Chicago and some screenings will be held at UIC in our very own Language Oasis (GH 308). This Wednesday there will be a screening of La Via della Conciliazione (The Road to Reconciliation) at 2PM. The film is FREE and open to the public and will be shown with English subtitles. For more information visit

Now is the time to start thinking about your courses for the Fall. Would you like to use a new tool? Is there something you'd like to do but just don't have the class time for? Do you have a new project but aren't sure how to make it work (either technologically or just practically)? The LCLC can help with any and all of these and other questions. We will not be open during the summer and will only be available by email, so now's the time to schedule a meeting - email us at!

All LCSL instructors are invited to attend the LCSL 505 session on Friday, April 14 from 2-3:50 in GH 304. We'll be talking and learning about tech tools for reading.

Weekly Workshop: Make your videos interactive!
Do your students actually watch the videos you post on line? Interactive video tools help keep students actively learning by including comprehension checks, annotations, and reflective open-ended questions right in the videos. We’ll demo four video quiz tools -- Vizia, H5P, PlayPosit, and EDpuzzle -- and Adventr -- a tool that lets you choose what happens next -- and help you find the right fit for your class. Bring a link to a video you use or would like to use!

Please note the change in workshop days and times this week.

Can't make the scheduled workshop times below? Email us to set up a meeting at the LCLC or in your office:

A teaching with technology tip of the week:

Do you use subtitled or captioned YouTube videos in your class? If so, did you know that you can move the placement of those subtitles? Simply grab them with your mouse and drag them where you want them to appear. This is a great trick for those times when your screen just isn't quite lined up correctly with the projector or to redirect student's attention to the action!

UIC LCLC Facebook and Twitter! Encourage your students and colleagues to check out the UIC Language and Culture Learning Center Facebook page and Twitter feed. Stay up-to-date with LCLC happenings. Promoting our pages is a good way to ensure your students know about your conversation hour or film series.

We also encourage you and your students to participate in our weekly events in 308 Grant Hall, listed below and on our calendar: All events at the LCLC are free and open to students of all levels. To request 308 for your cultural event, click here.

All UIC students, staff, and faculty are welcome to attend and practice their language skills.
All films are shown with English subtitles.
