Students conversing in Arabic Conversation Hour

Dear Faculty, Lecturers and TAs,

Have you ever used VoiceBoard or other Blackboard VoiceTools? Those tools are being canceled by UIC beginning in May 2017 and you will no longer have access to any content created with those tools. If you would like help backing up any materials you have in the current tools and moving them to the new alternative – VoiceThread – please email us at to set up an appointment before the end of the semester.

Now is the time to start thinking about your courses for the Fall. Would you like to use a new tool? Is there something you'd like to do but just don't have the class time for? Do you have a new project but aren't sure how to make it work (either technologically or just practically)? The LCLC can help with any and all of these and other questions. We will not be open during the summer and will only be available by email, so now's the time to schedule a meeting - email us at!

Weekly Workshop: New tools for student presentations!

Many of us ask our students to do presentations in the final weeks of the semester. PowerPoint, Prezi, and Google Slides are great, but there are lots of other ways to have students present material. If you’re still looking for just the right way to have your students present either in or out of class, individually or as a group this workshop is for you. We’ll introduce six presentation tools that offer some new ways of presenting material – alternatives for making slideshows, visually-rich pages, interactive images, infographics, and emagazines – and help you figure out which one might work best for your students. Bring your syllabus and your ideas!

Can't make the scheduled workshop times below? Email us to set up a meeting at the LCLC or in your office:

A teaching with technology tip of the week:

Choice Eliminator 2 ( is an easy-to-use add-on for Google Forms that eliminates options from a multiple choice or checkbox question after a specific number of people select it. In other words, it limits the number of people who can choose any one option on a form. This makes it a fabulous tool for creating online sign-up sheets for things like individual meetings, oral exams, group presentations, etc.

UIC LCLC Facebook and Twitter! Encourage your students and colleagues to check out the UIC Language and Culture Learning Center Facebook page and Twitter feed. Stay up-to-date with LCLC happenings. Promoting our pages is a good way to ensure your students know about your conversation hour or film series.

We also encourage you and your students to participate in our weekly events in 308 Grant Hall, listed below and on our calendar: All events at the LCLC are free and open to students of all levels. To request 308 for your cultural event, click here.

Staglieno Cemerty - Genoa's Magnificent, Neglected Sculpture, TUESADAY, April 25th, 6:00-8:00 PM
Genoa is not on the "grand tour"of Italy- everyone focuses on Rome, Florence and Venice. Very little attention is given to Genoa, and even less to a cemetery on the edge of town. Yet, this monumental cemetery, Staglieno, is the most extraordinary outdoor sculpture museum in Europe and one of its most hidden and unlikely treasures.
Fee: Free
Location: Italian Cultural Institute of Chicago, 500 N. Michigan Ave.
