New lecturer Rachel Bahng leads a get-to-know-you activity during Korean conversation hour.

Dear Faculty, Lecturers and TAs,

Do you have a project in mind but aren’t sure how to make it work? Is there a technology that you’d like to learn more about or possibly use in your course? The LCLC is here to help! We have tech tools for every kind of project - in any kind of class from beginning language to advanced graduate - and can help you find the best way to integrate them effectively and meaningfully into your teaching. Email us at lclc@uic.edu with all your questions!

New at Daley Library:

Weekly Workshop: Add video and audio to Blackboard. Do you use video and audio in your course? If so, this workshop is for you! We'll show you four tools for adding media to your course content, quizzes, blogs, and other assignments. First, we'll highlight Sharestream and demonstrate the new, easier way to upload videos. We'll also show you how to use Sharestream to collect student-created media assignments. In addition to Sharestream, we'll demonstrate how you can use three other web-based tools - Box, YouTube and Soundcloud - to add short video and audio clips that load faster than Sharestream. Bring your syllabus and your questions!

Can't make the scheduled workshop times below? Email us to set up a meeting at the LCLC or in your office: lclc@uic.edu

"All the words in the world. Pronounced" - Forvo

Forvo (http://forvo.com/) is a website offering a huge database of word pronunciations in most every language from all over the world. All languages taught in the LCSL are represented on Forvo, including Korean, Protuguese, Russian, Arabic, Latin, and Greek! Instead of wading through a recording of a dialogue or whole vocab list commonly used in textbooks, with Forvo, you can listen to individual words and expressions at their own pace. Simply search for the word you're looking for, pick your language and listen. You can also contribute to the project by pronouncing words in your native language.

A word that's tricky in many languages... squirrel. In EnglishGermanGreekItalianLithuanianPolishSpanish.

This Week's Featured Chicago-Area Cultural Event

 Il Boom [FILM] - September 29th-October 5th
The idiom "I'd give my right eye for..." gets a blackly humorous literalization in this slashing satire that has been hailed as a major rediscovery since receiving its first-ever U.S. release this year. This Kafkaesque parable and over-the-top, nearly surreal farce tells the story of Giovanni a creature of Italy's consumption-crazy postwar prosperity. Overspending wildly to impress his pampered spouse, he finds himself hopelessly in debt...until a bizarre bargain is proposed to him by the wife of a wealthy industrialist. In Italian with English subtitles.
Fee: $11; students $7; members $6
Location: Gene Siskel Film Center, 164 N State St, Chicago IL 60601
