Dear Faculty, Lecturers and TAs,

Welcome back to campus, and to hybrid, and to online!

LCLC had a busy summer with Spanish peer tutoring and a variety of projects for LCSL programs. We are looking forward to working with you on your tech projects from Zoom to Blackboard, from all things Google to Powerpoint. Our Virtual Helpdesk (Zoom room) is open M-F 9-5: join us here, and/or email us with questions: lclc@uic.edu.

In new news, Carly (senior lecturer) and Juanita (PhD student) are collaborating with me to take over for Iwona, who completed her postdoctoral fellowship in May. Our RAs this semester are Kelsi, Tania, Brian, and Evan.

Grad students, lecturers, and faculty are invited to register for LCSL 505, Professional Development Workshop: Teaching with Technology. This 1-credit class is all online; we'll start with building an online teaching portfolio for current and future job searches. Our first class is Friday, September 3, 3:00-4:45. Look for the link to join in next week's newsletter, or email us: lclc@uic.edu.

LCLC Language Peer Tutoring will start in the second week of classes for your BLP students in French, German, Italian, and Spanish. Click above to view a short video showcasing Celeste and Samie, Spanish peer tutors.

Best wishes for a happy, healthy, and productive semester: we are looking forward to collaborating with you.

Angelica, UIC B.A. in Psychology, 2011

Share your language story, too!

I was born in Estonia, so my mother tongue is Estonian. It is part of the Finno-Ugric language group, and very similar to Finnish. I was born at the time of the Soviet Union, so we had to learn Russian together with Estonian from the first grade on. English or German came later in the 4th grade, as an elective. I chose English.

- Angelica, UIC B.A. in Psychology, 2011

You can read more of Angelica’s story, including later experiences with Swedish, on our website. We’ve collected many stories so far, so check those out while you’re there!

Join us at LCLC Language Stories and tell us about your language journey. All stories are posted on our website and every week we feature one language story in our LCLC newsletter!
