"Students appreciated the frequent communication and posting of materials (PowerPoints, worksheets, review guides + answer keys, etc.). MY UIC LANGUAGE STORY: Have you checked out the latest stories written by our wonderfully multilingual UIC community?  To read them, and to share your own story about how the languages we speak and understand and learn, join us at LCLC Language Stories. Meet Sofiia:

"When I came to UIC my attitude towards language really changed since before UIC I didn’t actually realize how cool it is to know three languages. I took it for granted since back home many of my friends are also capable of speaking the same languages as I do. I’ve also made some friends from different countries, such as Kazakhstan and Russia. We all share the culture and Russian language in a particular way, but we still have different experiences to learn from each other. As I am a marketing major, I think speaking many languages will help me communicate well with future employers and clients." -Sofiia,  UIC B.S. in Marketing, 2023. https://lclc.uic.edu/news-stories/sofiia/

UIC LCLC social media! Encourage your students and colleagues to check out the UIC Language and Culture Learning Center Instagram and Twitter feeds. Stay up-to-date with LCLC happenings. Promoting our pages is a good way to ensure your students know about your conversation hour or film series.

Weekly Article:

Kids Can Learn to Love Learning, Even Over Zoom

"As the new school year begins, many students are learning virtually, either by personal choice or requirement — and many parents and teachers are concerned that students will fall behind in their knowledge. But a greater risk to our students may be that they lose their curiosity."

"Still, there are ways for teachers to nurture interest in learning — and they’re especially important in online classes. Three key principles are mystery, exploration and meaning."

"The purpose of school is not just to impart knowledge; it’s to instill a love of learning. In online schools and hybrid classrooms, that love doesn’t have to be lost."
