LCLC is hosting online tutoring, remote events, and more!

Dear Faculty, Lecturers and TAs,

How are the Blackboard sites working for you and your students? Are you ready to tweak them a little or add something else to encourage students to engage with each other outside of class? Our workshop on Google Sites (see below) might be just the thing. Or perhaps Vlogs or Discussion Boards sound good? We can help with that!
Join us by emailing lclc@uic.edu and joining us online at this link. We're open 9-5, Monday-Friday.

Peer tutoring updates: Kudos to our BLPs for encouraging strong students to become LCLC Peer Tutors. FIVE former LCLC Peer Tutors entered LCSL graduate programs this fall--two in French, two in German, and one in Italian. And Peer tutoring for 100-level students in Spanish, German, and French is in full swing, with between 10 and 20 hours a week for each language. Send your BLP students here!

MY UIC LANGUAGE STORY:  Have you checked out the latest stories written by our wonderfully multilingual UIC community? To read them, and to share your own story about how the languages we speak and understand and learn, join us at LCLC Language Stories.

The next LCSL 505 meeting session is happening in two weeks, on Friday, September 25. The topic will be Presentational Tools for Different Class Types and Modalities. We will explore presentational tools for lectures, seminars, labs and for an online, blended/hybrid, and F2F modality. E.g.: Powerpoint/Keynote/Google Slides, Prezi, Canva, Adobe Spark, Padlet; but also: Voice Thread and Video creating tools, Screen Cast recording tools, Voice recording tools, etc. Mark your calendars and feel free to email us for more information or questions on how to join!

UIC LCLC social media! Encourage your students and colleagues to check out the UIC Language and Culture Learning Center Instagram and Twitter feeds. Stay up-to-date with LCLC happenings. Promoting our pages is a good way to ensure your students know about your conversation hour or film series.

Do you have questions about online teaching? LCLC is the place to go for advice and assistance! Visit our online helpdesk on Blackboard Collaborate, or email us at lclc@uic.edu.

Weekly Workshop: Creating easy Websites, Syllabi, Portfolios, and More on Google Sites.
Tired of Blackboard? Google Sites is an easy way for you and your students to create and collaborate online. Making a website is about as easy as creating a Google Doc. You can create a site yourself or have your students create one to collaborate, organize, and present a portfolio of their research, writing, or other projects. In this workshop, we will help you think about how a Google Site might work in one of your classes. Bring your syllabus and your ideas and let's brainstorm!

Click here to join the workshop as a guest during the times listed above.

Can't make the scheduled workshop times? Email us to set up a meeting at the LCLC or in your office: lclc@uic.edu.
