NASA researchers' detection of salt deposits associated with the seasonal eruption of water from Mars' surface greatly enhances the possibility of persistent liquid water in the very near surface of the planet, says planetary scientist Andrew Dombard. Dombard, UIC associate professor of earth and environmental sciences, says such environments are potential habitats for life and the findings could result in future missions to Mars.
